History
Lake of the Woods Subdivision was incorporated in June of 1970, and the Homeowners Association (LOWHA) was incorporated in May of 1979. The Association went into a hiatus from mid 1996 to 2001. During 2001, strong interest was raised by the residents of the community again. Since then, the Association has be alive and actively addressing community concerns with different government departments, while holding community events for the benefit and enjoyment of the members and their families. Contrary to the Association name, any resident 18 years of age or older can become a member – ($30 per household). Why the annual dues? Annual dues are not mandatory. Many residents volunteer their time and services, but there are supplies/rentals/administration fees that need to be addressed throughout the year. i.e: Landscaping and maintenance upkeep of the subdivision entrance and mailbox area. It includes; flower planting, mulch, mowing, sign painting, etc. As well as; repairs and clean-up to the public swimming area; dock, path, etc., and any other park equipment installed/maintained by LOWHA (approved by Halifax). Also, expenses for the annual Yard Sale (advertising); Community BBQ/Fun Day (food, drinks, prizes, etc.); and any other new or annual events. Administration costs include banking charges, insurance, LOW Down Newsletter, Directory, and Website and anything that the board agrees will be of great benefit to the Lake of the Woods community.
